Mr. Hutt has served on our Board since November 2002. He is senior counsel specializing in food and drug law in the Washington, D.C. based law firm of Covington & Burling. From time to time, Covington & Burling provides legal services to us. Mr. Hutt joined Covington & Burling in 1960 and was named partner in 1968, leaving from 1971 to 1975 to serve as Chief Counsel for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or the FDA, and returning to Covington & Burling in September 1975. Mr. Hutt is the co-author of a casebook used to teach food and drug law throughout the country and teaches a full course on the subject annually at Harvard Law School. Mr. Hutt received a B.A. from Yale University and a LL.B. from Harvard University. In addition, Mr. Hutt received a Master of Laws degree in Food and Drug Law from New York University Law School.
In the past five years, Mr. Hutt has served as a member of the boards of directors of Momenta Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Xoma Ltd., CV Therapeutics, Inc., Introgen Therapeutics, Inc., and Celera Corporation, all of which are public companies. Mr. Hutt brings to the Board extensive experience and knowledge in the area of food and drug law.
